Shah Rukh Khan Was This Close to Working with THIS Hollywood Star—Would Have Played THIS Character…

Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio discussing Xtreme City project with Martin Scorsese

A potentially eccentric Bollywood-Hollywood tie-up, Xtreme City, with Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead, and Martin Scorsese behind it, fell apart.
Keep reading to find out why the project didn’t come together.

Did You Know?

Shah Rukh Khan Almost Worked with THIS Hollywood Talent!

Xtreme City—a gritty cross-culture thriller bankrolled by Martin Scorsese—almost got Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio to clash against each other in what could have been one of the biggest Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations ever.

But What Went Wrong?

Though the idea had fans across the globe buzzing, sources say creative control issues led to the project falling apart. Director Paul Schrader shared insights, noting:

  • “Shah Rukh is the boss,” Schrader explained.
  • SRK often bestows multiple directors to helm different scenes, such as action, romance, and musical numbers.

SRK Was Not Accustomed to Shooting Under…

According to Schrader, Shah Rukh Khan was not used to working with only one director, especially not for a Western film.

“He’d never actually worked under the yoke of an auteur… and he’d never been in second position to somebody like Leo before.”Paul Schrader

SRK’s Once “Firm” Commitment Became…

Apparently, SRK began to feel uncomfortable playing a second lead in a Western setting and not having creative control.
As his interest faded, Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement also dwindled, leading to the project eventually falling apart.

What Role Was Offered to Shah Rukh Khan?

In a 2024 revelation, Schrader shared that the three titans—SRK, DiCaprio, and Scorsese—met in Berlin to discuss the film.

SRK’s Character:

  • A Mumbai gangster
  • Crosses paths with an American officer (DiCaprio), who tracks him after a life-saving encounter in India.

What This Partnership Could Have Meant for World Cinema

Schrader even considered replacing SRK with Salman Khan but ultimately decided against it out of respect. He noted:

“If SRK learned about that, it would make it impossible for him to do it.”

Unfortunately, the film never got off the ground, and the world missed out on a monumental cinematic collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Scorsese.

SRK Not Hurt on King Sets

Meanwhile, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has not been hurt while shooting for his upcoming film King, according to a source quoted by NDTC News.

Although there have been past incidents of injury during filming, the actor reportedly travels to the United States regularly for treatment and therapy, but no fresh injuries have occurred on the current project.
