‘Haunted’ Annabelle Doll Tourist, Paranormal Investigator Dan Rivera Dies at 54

Sudden Death During Paranormal Tour
A 54-year-old ghost hunter, Dan Rivera, has died suddenly while on tour with the allegedly haunted Annabelle doll, according to his tour organisers.
Rivera, a U.S. Army veteran, was in Pennsylvania as part of his sold-out “Devils on the Run Tour” when the incident occurred, the New York Post reported. He passed away Sunday after concluding a three-day, sold-out event in Gettysburg, hosted by Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours at the Soldiers National Orphanage.
The New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) confirmed his death.
Circumstances Surrounding the Death
- Rivera died suddenly after wrapping up the tour, which showcased the infamous haunted doll Annabelle across the country.
- Firefighters and medics responded to an emergency call at his Gettysburg hotel on Sunday night for a man receiving CPR.
- Unfortunately, Rivera had already passed away by the time medics arrived.
The cause of death is currently unknown.
Coroner’s Findings
- The Beaver County Coroner’s Office told the Evening Sun that Rivera’s death did not appear suspicious.
- He was found alone in his hotel room.
- An investigation is ongoing.
Dan Rivera’s Paranormal Career
- Rivera was a host of the Travel Channel’s “Most Haunted Places.”
- He also produced several other shows, including Netflix’s “28 Days Haunted.”
- Rivera was actively touring with NESPR throughout the U.S., showcasing the possessed Annabelle doll.
The Legend of the Annabelle Doll
- Annabelle became infamous in the 1970s after being gifted to a Connecticut nursing student, Donna.
- Its owners at the time, Ed and Lorraine Warren, prominent demonologists known from The Conjuring film series, made chilling claims:
- The doll could lift its arms, follow people, and display malicious behavior.
- It allegedly stabbed a police officer and caused a car crash involving a priest.
The Warrens claimed the doll was possessed by a demonic entity, not a 6-year-old girl’s ghost, and placed it in their Occult Museum in Connecticut.
Pop Culture Presence
- The doll has been prominently featured in “The Conjuring” movie franchise.
- Earlier this year, Annabelle made headlines when conspiracy theorists linked it to a prison escape and fire in Louisiana.
- Experts, however, later clarified the doll was never “out of control.”
