• While shooting for Lakshya with Hrithik Roshan in 2003, Sham Kaushal suffered from terrible stomach pain but initially ignored it.
• Later, on the sets of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with director Shyam Benegal, he experienced unbearable pain and was rushed to the hospital.
• Doctors immediately performed surgery after diagnosing him.

Suicidal Thoughts in the Hospital

In a podcast with Amar Aujla, Sham Kaushal recounted:

• The surgery lasted around three hours, and after three days, he regained consciousness.
• Despite the operation, the doctors informed him and his family that he had been struck by a fatal disease with no hope for recovery.
• Sham recalled thinking:

“When they told me this in the evening, I thought to myself, ‘Before I die, I will jump off the third floor and die.’ I wasn’t being weak, not at all. But I thought, if I’m going to die anyway, why not now?”

• However, he could not act on this thought due to severe post-surgical pain.

A Prayer to God

Sham Kaushal shared his private conversation with God during this challenging time:

• “I told God, ‘Take my life now as I don’t want to live a life where I’m not strong for my family.’
• But then I prayed, **‘Give me 10 more years if possible, as my kids are really young.’”
• He added, “I had asked God for 10 more years, but it is now 22 years. That phase changed my life. I met several good people. I received good work. My kids have been doing well. I grew in life.”
